Day 16 : Llanddulas to Southport (103 miles)

No signal last night!!

Day 16 complete -103 miles, 650m climbing so a relatively flat day.

Started off at 8am

From Prestatyn then to Oaken Holt and around the Wirral peninsula through West Kirkby, Hoylake, Wallasey to Birkenhead and on to Ellesmere Port and Frodsham across the Silver Jubilee Bridge past Runcorn, Liverpool and Bootle going along a disused railway line for quite a way and on to Formby Point Caravan Park arriving at 4pm.

Steve and I travelled from Prestatyn to Chester and did some food shopping and went to the Crematorium at Wrexham to see the memorial plaque we had done for Mum and Dad before travelling to Formby.

First time we’ve seen Matt on the road.

Photo of a beautiful deserted Prestatyn beach, some Matt took on his way and a late walk at Formby with George.

Just over 1,300 miles completed….

Day 15 complete – 107 miles, 1672m climbing. Matt left the Campsite at Rhosneigr at 8am. Heavy rain all last night but fortunately it stopped as we got up and turned into a lovely sunny day but with a head wind.

Photos from Matt’s day and a couple Steve and I took at Holyhead mountain and sunset at Prestatyn.

Just over 31% of the mileage completed

He cycled along South Stack Road to Holyhead then round the coast to Benllech, Amlwch then to Pentraeth, Mariandyrys and round to the Menai Bridge past Bangor on to Conwy, Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Abergele, Rhyl and on to Prestatyn arriving at 5pm.

Cyclists aren’t allowed on the A55 so he went on the NCN No 5 cycle path route.

Steve and I took George to Rhosneigr beach again before we left then drove to Holyhead and had a walk around the mountain before driving on to Prestatyn. Took George onto Prestatyn beach tonight with a beautiful sunset.

Day 14 : Barmouth to Rhosneigr (97 miles)

Day 14 complete – 97 miles, 1484m climbing, large screw in tyre caused a puncture and a broken spoke didn’t help the day.

Matt cycled from Barmouth – the hill out of the campsite was his first challenge!! to Harlech round to Porthmadog, down to Pwllheli then round to Mynytho, Tudweiliog up to Llanaelhaern, Llandaff and on to the campsite at Rhosneigr literally at the end of the runway for RAF Valley so have seen very noisy jets flying over since we arrived.

It has rained pretty much all day but let up long enough to take George for a walk on the beach tonight but has started again now. Steve and I had a nice drive today even though it rained all the way it was very atmospheric with the very low cloud over the mountains and forests.

Day 13 : Cardigan to Barmouth (101 miles and over 25% 1,180 of the 4,400+ miles completed)

101 miles, 1783m climbing today. Set off at 8am and reached the campsite in Barmouth at 3.30pm. Cycled from Cardigan on the A487 to Aberystwyth  then up to Machynlleth  and round to Aberdyfi, Fairbourn round to Dolgellau and on to Barmouth.

Drizzly most of the morning got heavier after lunch and is pouring down this evening. Managed a walk along Barmouth beach this evening – George’s happy place – in between the showers and saw a huge number of jelly fish on the beach.

Day 12 : Pembroke to Cardigan (69 miles)

Day 12 complete – Matt cycled 69 miles with 1713m climbing. He left at 8.10am and arrived at the Cardigan Caravan and Camping site at 2.40pm.

He cycled into Pembroke, then to Milford Haven, around to Dale, Little Haven, Broadhaven, Newgale, Solva, St David’s, Fishguard along A487 to the campsite. We arrived just after him as we left later and had to stop at Tesco to stock up.

Also ended up down a narrow lane in someone’s garden – apparently they have the same post code as the campsite which was the next left and it happens all the time – Had a great problem turning around.

Photos taken by Matt on his way – last 3 are views from tonight’s campsite.

Day 11 : Rest Day Pembroke (A Well Deserved Rest)

Day 11 – A well deserved rest Day for Matt.

It was a wild night last night with rain and wind which wasn’t forecast.

We decided to get the train from Pembroke to Tenby today – a favourite of ours as we had several holidays there when Tasha and Matt were young.

It was George’s first trip on a train and he wasn’t very impressed!

But well worth it when he reached the beach..

Tenby was still pretty busy and we had a walk around the town and a long walk along the beach.

George was very happy to be able to go in the sea!

Back to the cycling tomorrow –

George.. Cardigan tomorrow night… Looks like it might be cold..

Day 10 : Llanmadoc to Pembroke (60 Miles)

Day 10 complete – a shorter day today – 60 miles with 937m climbing. Just as well really as the weather started off very wet. Fortunately by the time Matt left it had virtually stopped but did rain along the way.

He cycled to Llanelli, Burry Port, Carmarthen, St Clears, down to Amroth, Saundersfoot, Tenby and across to Pembroke to Windmill Hill Caravan Park. The owner showed us a short cut across the fields to avoid the main road so we walked into Pembroke and had fish and chips by the river. Great walking in as all downhill but very steep walking back.
